Don’t we all love a dumpling! The good news is, we don’t need to worry about making them from scratch as there is usually a wide variety of frozen dumplings at your local or Asian speciality supermarket, including vegan. All that’s really needed is a bamboo steamer and a wok of steaming water. The sauce is also an easy throw together. So there is literally nothing stopping us from hosting our own homestyle dumpling party… and indulging in an Oxford Landing Merlot.
4 tablespoons soy sauce
1 ½ tablespoons rice wine vinegar
1 teaspoon brown sugar
2 teaspoons black sesame oil
1 clove garlic, minced
2 teaspoons fresh ginger root, grated
2 teaspoons toasted sesame seeds
1 teaspoon chilli oil or red chilli flakes
Mix all ingredients together and serve in bowls large enough for dipping your favourite dumpling
Fill a wok with enough water to reach 2 cm up the sides of the Bamboo steamer. Line the base of the steamer with perforated parchment paper. Bring water to a rolling simmer. Arrange dumplings in the base of the steamer leaving enough space to allow the steam to circulate. Cover with lid and steam for around 10 mins or according to packet instructions. Keep an eye on the water level as they cook and top up with more boiling water as needed.
